What is the difference in flat screen and plasma tv?

I want to purchase a TV--30-42 inches, flat screen and thin-what's the difference between plasma and LCD?

  • As I was searching for a TV, I found that just because a TV says flat screen doesn't mean it will hang on a wall. There are plasma sets and LCD sets--what's the difference? I'm looking for a nice, cable ready TV between 30 adn 42 inches that isn't going to cost me thousands of dollars. Am I being unreasonable???? Help!!!!

    Plasma televisions have superior picture quality, color reproduction, contrast and refresh rate. Plasmas are cheaper. Plasmas built today will last many, many years. My suggestion, Samsung 42'' plasma for about $1300 total.

we have both a 32 in lcd hd and a 40" lcd hd. we didnt go with plasma because there is glare on the screen. we got the 40" at c city for about $1400, but there were serveral 32's for about $1000 or under. it all depends on the contrast ratio..the more contrast the better and of course the higher price. we like the samsung tvs. most mnftrs have dropped the 37 " model . the plate to hang it on the wall is around $150-$200 itself but dont try to make one up yourself.

what's the difference? Money....and if you want to use the tv past 2012, then use the LCD...
