Can I use universal remote on an old analogue tv?

I have a TV without a SCART connector can I use a Freeview box to watch digital channels?

  • The TV is old and so has no SCART connector. Therefore can I use the RF connector to get Freeview. I think if I connect the RF output from the Freeview box to the TV I only get analogue channels. Could I use a SCART to RF lead (if such a thing exists) to connect the Freeview box to my TV and get the digital channels?

  • Answer:

Yes, you can buy adaptors which'll plug into your RF output and 'transform' it to a SCART connector. They're not very expensive and you can get them from most electrical retailers like Comet, Dixons, Argos etc....

Phone a retailer for advice, or buy a cheap TV with a scart connection.

I didn't know of any adapter which can convert the scart signal to a RF plug. The Rf only has two connections it doesn't seem logical to convert scart to RF. However I put 'scart to rf adapter' in google and they are available, though quite expensive. If you have a video recorder with a scart socket, plug it into the video recorder, have the video recorder on AV (to pick up the freeview signal), and the RF from the video recorder to the television will pass the signal to the TV. It doesn't matter if the video recorder doesn't record clearly.

Does it have audio video imputs (white red and yellow) If so then you can get an scart to video conection (its just an addaptor from any good electrical store. Try comet or currys. Happy watching
