You need an aerial to pick up analogues broadcasts. You need an aerial to pick up digital broadcasts. No aerial = no signal = no programmes..

You must have an aerial or the set won't be showing anything at all. Do you use an indoor one at the moment or an old outside one that has been around for decades? I think you're meaning a "digital aerial". If that is what you mean then forget it - there is no such thing. That name is just something given to decent aerials which are usually slightly larger than the ones needed for analogue reception. All Freeview reception needs is a very good aerial that is properly installed and correctly aligned with the transmitter. Don't wait until next March to get a new aerial. There is no point in spending a year watching poor pictures. They're not expensive so go ahead and buy one. Don't waste your time and money with a "booster".

You will need an aerial; might be lucky enough to get away with an indoor one, but not recommended for trouble-free viewing.

If you don't have an antenna, then it is only because you must be extremely close to the broadcast tower that you are getting any signal at all. You need an antenna.
