Can I get a better signal than 480i?

How to get 1080i instead of 480i?

  • I BOUGHT A 2 YEAR OLD 65 INCH MITSUBISHI REAR PROJECTION HDTV. IT SAYS IT IS A 1080i BUT THE ON SCREEN DISPLAY ALWAYS SAYS 480i. HOW DO I GET IT TO BE ON 1080i?

  • Answer:

Several things you need to know. Just because it's an HDTV doesn't mean that it's going to show TV shows in HD. You need to get a HD antenna, then you can receive HD signals. You can also get a HD cable box from your cable company. Next, just because you have the antenna or HD cable box doesn't mean you can watch HD. The channel needs to broadcast in HD in order for you to see it in HD quality. For example, CourtTV isn't broadcast in HD, so I won't see it in HD. NBC has a HD signal, so I can watch NBC in HD. For DVD, it depends on your DVD player. If you have a regular DVD player, then it's 480i. If it has progressive scan, then it's 480p. If you have an upconvert DVD player AND a HDTV, then it can upconvert the signals up to 720p/1080i. If you have a Blu-ray or HD-DVD player AND a HD-TV capable of 1080p, then it can display Blu-ray DVD and HD-DVD up to 1080p. For normal DVD, Blu-ray and HD-DVD players can upconvert normal DVD to 720p/1080i on a HDTV.
