LCD or a plasma screen?

Should I buy flat screen LCD, flat screen plasma or rear projection lcd?

  • I have points on a Sony credit card that will get me a 37" Bravia 3LCD rear projection tv. It's a model number KDF-37H1000 Should I pay a little extra out of pocket and get a flat panel or are the rear projection tv's good quality? If anyone knows anything about this specific model please discuss.

  • Answer:

Free is sweet...But I would call them and see if you can credit your points towards a FLAT PANEL LCD first, BECAUSE you sound like you WANT it more than the LCD Projection TV... And if you cannot, then I would see if it's worthwhile to wait until you can buy an LCD Flat panel unit..(you don't want your points to start expiring (about 5 years on several Points-based cards). Lastly I would BUY the LCD Projection...they are good, but I'm just not into BULB replacement....That's why I like LCD flat panel TVs more..... So see if you can use your points, and Pay the difference <<OR>> see when your Points expire and USE THEM before they do...

Okay here's the questions you need to ask yourself. Do you watch sports? Do you play video games? Is your room well lit? If you answer yes to any of these then do not purchase a rear projection tv or plasma. They don't show live action very well, video games have a tendency to burn a ghost image onto the screens, and unless your room is dark the picture is hard to see. It's worth the extra money for the LCD.

Some of the rear projection have excellent picture quality. However, none of them can compare to the top flat panels, be them lcd or plasma. Another factor to consider is the footprint. The flat panels take up considerably less space. For the best picture quality and smallest footprint, either lcd or plasma is the way to go. At 37", either one should be fine, as many companies are making quality televisions for both formats in this size. Any bigger, and I would definitely go plasma. You get a better bang/buck ratio. Personally, I am partial to the panasonic plasmas. They tend to hold the highest ratings among independent reviewers, and the one I have has an incredible picture at a great price.

lcd - because the high cost of plasma only last a total of three years! :(
