How do I watch tv on my pc?

How can I watch movies from my PC on my tv?

Just got a new TV, it has a USB port which lets you view pictures and videos on the tv but not video playback. I can't connect my pc via any cables as its upstairs. Is there anything I can buy to watch HD (some 720p and others 1080p) videos from the computer on the TV? I was thinking an "apple tv" but. Don't really know much about them.

Clare, if your PC is upstairs and TV downstairs , then buy yourself a Video Sender from ebay (about £25) but worth it .
