Michael's info is not correct. Plasmas have better contrast meaning the blacks are very black. There are other downsides however. If I were you, I'd stick with LCD.

Plasma is top of the line for picture quality. but .....their shelf life is quite short compared to LCD. Depends on if you want to throw a huge tv away every 2 to 3 years, or not. LCD on the other hand has come a long way. Some of the LCD's out there have pictures so clear they look like plasma anyway. Anything blue ray you put into them appears as if its really in your living room in real life, even clearer sometimes which is scary lol. LCD screens last a good 10 to 12 years expected life now. Any LCD with a 1020 P rating will get you the best pixels and the clarity you are looking for. I have a lot of friends that went with plasma and had to throw away very expensive sets barely a year later as the color began to fade and change and the clarity began to look milky and blurred. So it depends on if you want to have somebody come in a mount a new tv every 12 months or get 95 percent of that same picture in an LCD that will last you for years.

Depends on what you want, actually. Plasma has better color but the blacks aren't very black, more grey. LCD has decent color but the black is -black-. I prefer LCD. Stephen is an idiot. Everyone knows that plasmas have fantastic color but don't get dark enough. Just go to an electronics store and compare the same movie. As for gaming, I prefer LCD, I like my dark and scary games to actually be dark.
