I want to purchase an HDTV primarily for my video game system, does it matter what kind I get?
-
I'm looking to purchase an HDTV in the neighborhood of 32" primarily for my video game system. I've heard that some tvs burn out quicker than others due to video game use. I was just wondering if there is a certain type I should get for my needs.

Answer:
Yes, plasma HDTVs are prone to screen burn-in. I suggest that you consider LCD HDTV, preferrably one of the Sony Bravia or XBR models. The clarity and color is awesome. The price is a little higher compared to other brands of the same size for the most part, but I would rather get a smaller sized Sony for the same price simply for the better picture quality. There are 32" Sonys out there for about $1,000, so just search and you will find. Here is some help to get on the right path... * * * Always submit "thumbs up" ratings for good answers! * * *

I'll let you know only if you buy me one to. Vizio's seem to be coming around a lot latly, but I would suggest researching them more first. For a HDTV, I would get an LCD TV from any of the major brands. I really like samsungs, but panasonic, RCA and sony are also good. Good luck and you can e-mail me for my address so you know where to ship mine to...

i just got a sony one and it is great. I went to a couple of different places and told the sales staff what i was using it for. Some didn't really know until i found a gamer so he was lots of help.

Buy a HD-LCD. Great video quality for gaming and you don't have to worry about image burn-in. Get atleast a 32"

If you are going to be using it for games you really don't want a plasma screen, you'll want an LCD flat screen for the best graphics and picture. If you go to Wal*Mart and check out their displays for the game system you'll see that they now have HD/LCD tv's for them. Check out all the displays of the different tv's side by side and choose the one you like the best...they are all pretty much the same anymore. Good luck and happy gaming.

John is correct. LCDs dont really burn, but the liquid gets hot can change the color on it slightly in the form of a picture that you had on there for awhile. I have proof. But it took a year to do it though. :) So not bad at all.

If you are looking for something "only" around 32 inches, and primarily for gaming, the only real choices are plasma and lcd. If you go the plasma route, make sure it has some sort of "pixel shift" technology to reduce the chance of screen burn-in; also make sure it is not merely ED (extended definition) which will only get you 480p. If you decide to go the lcd route, look for a fast response time, 8ms or less should be sufficient; anything higher than 8ms may produce "smearing" where the lcd crystals can not react fast enough to the color changes in the game so it kind of "smears" the picture. Also with the lcd, look for a high contrast ratio, 1200:1 or higher would be the minimum for good black detail. Once again, make sure it is not merely ED. With both, it wouldn't hurt to have a built-in ATSC tuner (this is a high definition tuner and will allow you to get over-the-air high definition stations out of the box (in some places, basic cable offers some high definition channels as well, but this requires an ATSC/QAM tuner)
