Why am not getting all my channels with digital cable?

Why am I only getting the low and high cable channels in this setup?

  • I had to connect to the cable through a VCR (cable was ripped out: ala http://ph.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070811115924AAI4w9S ) and the only channels that work are 2-16 and 60ish-73? any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks a lot

  • Answer:

You might have to use the program function on your tv and vcr to correct this. It should be on your remote.

Is your VCR set to Cable? Try set it to Antenna. Why do you still have a VCR? is it beta?

Possible Problems: 1. Your VCR is only picking up channels it is programmed to pick up. You need to auto program or auto tune (whatever you VCR manufacturer calls it) the channels again. 2. You question is slightly inaccurate and the real channels you are tuning are 2 through 13 and then some channels in the range 65 to 78 (but the channel number is wrong). This means your VCR is set to AIR or Broadcast Channels instead of Cable channels. Set it for cable tuning. Channel comparison for the technical minded: http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/catv-ch.html

Unless your VCR is one of the "OLDER" units that didn't have the mid-band tuning in it. I've seen that before when you can only pick up channels to high teens-low 20's then jump to 50 something & skip everything in between.
