WIll I need a TV licence for my Analogue TV when they switch off Analogue in 2012?
-
I don't intend ever to go digital, I only use my TV now for watching DVD's (although I do always buy an annual licence for it, unfortunately!). But if I never go digital, will the BBC make me get a licence after 2012 - surely my analogue TV wouldn't be able to get any signals after that date? Thanks!

Answer:
The law currently states that a licence is needed for any equipment capable of receiving a television signal. So unfortunately for yourself, unless they change the law, it will probably mean that you will still need a television licence.

Interesting concept. They will probably argue that even though your TV isn't capable of processing the signals it is capable of receiving them and therefore requires a licence. The only sure way would be to chuck your tv in the skip and watch dvds on your PC.

Chances are, by 2012 the TV licence will have been abolished and everything will be Pay-per-View. Either that, or the BBC will be funded by advertising...

Yes, you are right... analog TV will only be usable to fill up landfills.

The BBC doesn't arrange licensing-that's the TV licensing people's responsibility. Presumbably having an analogue tv then will be like having a non working tv now. So no licence will be needed.

no wrap your tv in silver paper then they can't detect you.

The license is for operating a receiving station. But at present it seem a TV in the house is enough to trigger the requirement. It would be best to enquire in writing of the licensing authority nearer the time. You seem to have a good argument for not lcensing, but don't just rely on logic!

I SHOULDNT THINK SO, BUT KNOWING THE GOVERNMENT THEY MIGHT FIND A WAY TO MAKE YOU LIABLE, BECAUSE IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT YOUR SET IS STILL CAPLE OF RECIEVING THE ANALOGUE SIGNAL THAT THE GOVERMENT OWNS THE RIGHTS TO BROARDCAST. PHONE THEM WHEN THE TIME COMES AND GET WHAT SAY IN WRITING ASWEL
