If i buy a comcast from ebay will it work?

I have Comcast and if I buy a digital receiver from eBay, how do I get a signal to it? I know they say u cant.

  • People would not sell the receivers on eBay if they could not use them. How can I get a signal to the digital receiver from Comcast so I can have all the channels in my room without renting another receiver from Comcast. They rip you off every chance they get.

    I am going to piggyback on the previous persons answer and add that Comcast only uses one manufacturer for its cable boxes and I believe its Motorola so you may not be able to use the one you have as it has to recognize the signal pattern. thsy do this because several dishonest people who dont pay for rights for digital cable somehow are able to get the signals without paying and every once ina while, Comcast sends out a phantom "virus" that looks for a receiver that will recognize the reset code and virtually makes the non motorola cable boxes useless.

Well, I don't know about the receiver you're looking at on eBay, but all that digital cable box is, is a QAM tuner so that is what you need to buy. The difference between a generic "Clear QAM" tuner and a tuner from Comcast is that the comcast box has been programmed to descramble channels and assign specific numbers to certain channels. Many TVs have a QAM tuner in them, you just plug them into cable and you will get all of the unscrambled channels, however, some or all of the channel numbers may be different than that of a Comcast box.

I have Comcast and I have a HDTV (it has a built-in ATSC tuner) I hook up the coax and I get the basic cable (analog) as well as the the free HD and SD channels plus Movieplex and a couple others. All the scrambled channels are still scrambled. Comcast is quite aware of what WE can get, and has no problem giving it to US. So if it's a HD tuner then it should work, but you are only going to get the same channels you are getting already, but you get the analog and digital versions of some channels. If this is what you are talking about then go for it. But if you are talking about getting HBO etc. with a illegal Cable box, save your money.
