Coaxial and digital output?

If my TV has an "Audio Out" output, would work with a coaxial digital audio cable?

  • I'm fairly certain that a regular yellow audio cable wouldn't give as much quality as a digital cable. The new sound system I have doesn't have optical, so I need to see if I can use a coaxial cable even though my TC doesn't have a named port for it. Thanks in advance.

"...I'm fairly certain that a regular yellow audio cable wouldn't give as much quality as a digital cable..." Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Audio quality is a strictly human perception, and audio reproduction to the limit of human hearing has been around for decades in hi-fi and stereo systems. Digital audio is just another way a moving an audio signal from point A to point B, and it's especially convenient in an HDTV, which is fundamentally a digital box. However, you cannot intermix analog and digital audio inputs and outputs, so your suggested use of the coaxial cable won't work.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying, but the sound quality carried by digital coaxial and digital optical audio cables will be exactly the same. The digital coaxial cable is just a simple coaxial cable terminated with RCA connectors on each end; a yellow composite video cable would do the job, in fact. But you cannot connect a digital audio output to an analog audio input, or vice versa.

your audio outputs are analog and impedance 600 ohms...so you may use 600 ohms cable. digital sound is like optical......it has its special cable.
