Can I get a better signal than 480i?

How come i only get 480i on a 1080 tv?

  • its a 65inch new mitsubishi, i have direct tv as provider. do i need hdmi cable? i know the tvs 1080 but the screen only show 480i

  • Answer:

480i is Standard Definition; basically upconverted analog. Do you have an HD receiver from DirecTV? If not, the receiver will only put out SD.

the majority of channels are only offered in 480i.

Blah man

it depends on ur company that gives u cabel, basic cabel probably wont do any high then 480i, even direct TV doesnt give u perfect 1080 quailty, blue will give u near perfect picture, the PS3's blue is actually better then a regular blue-ray DVD player

Is your tv 1080i or 1080p? becuase there is a big difference, and also is it native 1080 or the box says it can go to 1080 cuz thats a also a really big difference. to watch cable channels in HD there are special channels for that (the higher channels) not all channels are broadcasted in 1080 resolution yet (i have no idea why, seems like an easy enough thing to do)

What are you watching? Could it be the broadcast is only in 480i? You may want to go to your TV settings to select the max. I have a Vizio 42" plasma and had to go to the video settings to select 720p.
