  • ok so I have a plasma HDTV http://www.samsung.com/us/consumer/detail/detail.do?group=televisions&type=televisions&subtype=plasmatv&model_cd=HPT4264X/XAA its this one ^.... so you'll know what am talking about my question is....what format is it?? is it...720i? 720p? 1080i? 1080p?? the reason why I'm trying to figure out its cuz I plugged my PS3 to my tv...along with the HDMI cable...and it gave me a resolution of 1080i..and also..is there any way I can get a 1080p resolution? and if so..what do I need to do? thanks

  • Answer:

Your TV has a resolution of 720p. And no, theres nothing you can do it "make" it 1080p. The HDMI cable can upconvert "UP TO" 1080i but thats pretty much the same as 720p. p = progressive. all the lines of resolution are shown at once. resulting in a better picture i = interlaced. the lines of resolution are woven together, like a basket, leaving small wholes in the lines. you are not seeing all the lines are once. So in this case 720p is better than 1080i.

Native resolution is 1024 x 768, in Australia this isn't technically High Def, It's standard def, not sure if its the same for US or UK. High def would require at least Y x 1080 native resolution. I'm not a guru but this is my understanding
