Why is my cable box causing interference?

What is causing my cable interference?

  • Ever since the Digital T.V transition stuff my cable has been fuzzy and the picture occasionally bounces up and down on the screen. This happens with the Digital and Analog channels. Some days everything works just fine and other days its so bad that you can't even watch anything, and some channels are just constantly messing up like USA, and Local News, those channels hardly ever work. The cable company won't give an answer as to why this is happening and the entire area here has the problem. I was once told its because we are too far away from the Cable tower but that can't be true because I look out my window and the cable tower is about a half mile away. The cable tower is old and the cable lines around the area are pretty old but they have replaced quite a few of the lines in the past year including the one I'm on, but no improvements at all. Any ideas what the issue could be?

  • Answer:

I and a neighbor had similar problems a couple of years ago. I called the cable company and told them that the signals were bad in the area. They came to our houses and replaced the old RG-59 pigtails we were using from the wall to all our TVs with RG6 and new connectors and our signals have been good ever since. I was embarrassed because I was a TV repairman and antenna installer for over 50 years up to that point.
