What's the deal with 3d?

Whats the difference between 3D TVs and none 3D TVs?

  • With the 3D TVs you need the 3D specs and you can still do the same on none 3D TVs so what's the difference?

  • Answer:

You're thinking of the old red and blue glasses. Technology today has far surpassed those. 3D TVs use active shutter glasses, which literally block the image to one eye at a time, very quickly, to match the alternating pictures displayed on the TV screen. That's a very simple explanation. Much more information is available here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_TV

The difference is that 3DTVs use a complex system that provides superior 3D effects over a regular tv. The most common way to see 3D on a regular tv is with cheap red/blue cardboard glasses. This was called anaglyph and the effect only barely worked. The new 3DTVs use a far more advanced system with electronic glasses. 3DTVs require special inputs and processing hardware that older tvs didn't have. Send me an e-mail if that doesn't make sense.

The only real difference im aware of is the refresh rate. (120z,240z etc.) While new to a lot of people, this technology has been on home computers over seven years now. to create the 3d image the tv will actually draw 2 separate frames offset. The stereo glasses switch one lens open and the other closed at such a high rate u cant see it happening. To get you to buy the 3d tv i believe they have locks in the 3d players. I myself was just in the market for a new tv as my old 65" BIG living room hog died. I decided to pass up on 3d because when i used it on my pc back in the day it got old real fast. its like WOW and then an hour later you dont want to be bothered with it.

none, because you still need glasses to watch 3D video on both. EDIT Just wanted to add some clarification as to why 3d can be watched on both. You can use http://www.bukisa.com/articles/34245_how-to-convert-2d-videos-into-3d-an-easy-inexpensive-technique convert your movies to 3D, get some glasses, and get the same freeking results.
