What's the difference between LCD and Plasma? What is better for sports and video games?

In addition, what brands would you recommend? I have a $1500 budget and am looking for a 37 inch minimum flat screen to hang on my wall. Also, will video game usage (xbox 360,ps2, laptop connection, etc.) damage my screen and leave an imprint?

The fast and simple answer is: A plasma display panel (PDP) is an emissive flat panel display where light is created by phosphors excited by a plasma discharge between two flat panels of glass. The gas discharge contains no mercury (contrary to the backlights of an AMLCD). An inert mixture of noble gases (neon and xenon) is used instead. What you have is a physical excitement of free radicals between the flat panel plates. This plasma will eventually burn out. It is 100% inevitable. It is know in the FPD design world that plasma TV technology will die out within 5-10 years. A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat display device made up of any number of color or monochrome pixels arrayed in front of a light source or reflector. It is prized by engineers because it uses very small amounts of electric power, and is therefore suitable for use in battery-powered electronic devices. Each pixel consists of a column of liquid crystal molecules suspended between two transparent electrodes, and two polarizing filters, the axes of polarity of which are perpendicular to each other. Without the liquid crystals between them, light passing through one would be blocked by the other. The liquid crystal twists the polarization of light entering one filter to allow it to pass through the other. As LCD technology gets better through schemes such as DLP, the quality of LCD’s will eventually become equal to that of plasma TV’s. For gaming, Plasma TV’s respond faster and provide better definition, however, as stated previously, have their definite problems. I would wait 5 years until some advances which are currently on the design table come to fruition. By that time, GEN 10 flat panels will become a reality and the current GEN 8 models will become much cheaper. LG makes a great DLP LCD You can get a 37 inch for around your budget. You XBOX will not affect the long term reliablity of your LCD DLP TV.

LCD is a way better than plasma and plasma technology is outdated now with LCD. So go for LCD for games or for movies...whatever... i myself was confused with it but than found a website which helped me out and purchased 42" sony bravia LCD. its awsome... you wont regret.

I prefer LCD. It's more spendy but there's no "burn in".

Plasma should be a bit cheaper, but I understand that LCD is slightly better, and does not BURN an image in the screen. So the LCD will look and work better for a longer period of time. So if you get Plasma, TURN IT off when it is not in use. Do not leave the background image NOT moving. Look at the Customer comments for various Plasma and LCD television/monitors at NewEgg. Visit http://www.newegg.com/ then search for PLASMA TV then search for LCD TV
