How do I choose a new hdtv TV Digital Antenna?

My Dynex 32 inch 720p HDTV recently stopped working, I don't know if it's the TV or the antenna?

  • I don't know whether it's the TV or the antenna that stopped working, I'm using a regular antenna to get basic channels because I don't wanna buy cable. When I first got it a month ago, everything was working fine like most of the channels would start working after moving the antenna around. Now however when I turn on the TV all it says is "Please Run Channel Auto Scan" and everytime I autoscan it doesn't get any channels it just displays this: RF CH: Found: Digital: Analog: and only the RF CH part has a few channels found, all the other things just say 0. The input is not on AV or anything, it's on TV so it can't be that. I don't know what's going on. Any suggestions? Thanks..

  • Answer:

The most likely issue is the antenna. Carefully check the screw on connector at the back and make sure it has not come loose and make sure the thin wire that goes in the hole is not bent or broken. If there is no issue with the connector, check the rest of the antenna to be sure no wires or connectors have worked loose. You may want to try a different antenna. This digital TV is sometimes difficult to pull in and if the signal is too weak, YOU GET NOTHING. At least, in the analog TV days, a weak signal gave you an audio signal and video covered with snow or distorted vertical hold. Few people know it, but for most digital stations, one of the best antennas are the old fashioned UHF antennas that have two bowtie shaped metal pieces attached to a rectangle with several parallel lines. Read the link. Few stations are still using VHF frequencies all though digital channels 2-13 are on the VHF. VHF is usually easier to get than UHF. I think you just need to fix your existing antenna or replace it, since you were receiving your signals fine before and something caused you to lose them. It is NOT LIKELY at all that your TV has given out.
