How do people record their TV screen?

How do i get my video to record digital channels from my new tv (digital flat screen tv) ?

  • Got the tv yesterday, did a test record on video on a digital channel, worked with tv on but recorded blank when tv off

  • Answer:

John is absolutely right. You have been recording the programme that you were watching live. You've been using the tuner in the television to do this so when you switched the telly off it cannot work. Get a Freeview box and connect that to the SCART input of the VCR (they always have two sockets) and use that as the video's tuner. Keep the SCART to the telly so you can play back the recordings.

Other answers

It sounds from your description that you're recording from the tuner inside the TV. If you want to record when the TV is switched off, or record one channel while watching another you will need to connect a separate Freeview box to the recorder.

Record on what? A DVR? A VCR? Without knowing what equipment you're using, it's hard to guess.
