  I'm not sure why you would get a new cable box if your TV does not support high def. It depends what AV connections your cable box offers and what AV connection types your TV has. They just about have to be the same, be it S-video, composite video, or component video. However, since you told us nothing of the connections these two devices have, you have made it pretty much impossible to answer. You need to simply copy those terms and then do a goggle search on each and familiarize yourself with the look of each and then you will be able to figure out how or even if you can hook these devices together.
