How does an automatic AV switch work?

Help please, mydish network remote is not working with my vizio tv. I can't switch channels on my receiver.?

I have a lcd vizio that worked great with comcast hd. I now have dish network with a dual tv program ( meaning a receiver and 2 TVs, the vizio plugged into the receiver and the other without a receiver). The problem is that the dish remote control doesn't work anymore. It doesn't switch the channels at all, it does nothing. I have it connected to my hdmi. But when I do switch the tv from hdmi to av for about 10 seconds and return to hdmi, the remote works for a few seconds and then stops again. The remote for the other tv is behaving poorly also. I can't even switch the channels or anything. Is it my tv? The dish is set to dual tv mode and everything but still... It is driving me crazy. Help please, what can I do?

Your question is a bit difficult to follow, but I think I understand it. You are using the DIsh remotes. right? Try rebooting the Dish receiver. Unplug the power cord for about 10 seconds and plug it back in. Give the receiver a couple of minutes to reboot.
