How to hook up cable TV?

I'm gonna be getting an Optic cable for my PS2 soon & I was wondering how I hook it to my TV?

  • I have the PS2, the TV, & a VCR, the PS2 is hooked to the VCR, & the VCR is hooked to the TV. I'll be getting an Optic cable soon, I know how to hook the Optic cable to the PS2, but where do I plug it into the TV? Do I need some kind of adapter or anything like that? Will it hook to my VCR? I have no clue how it hooks up to the TV? So basically my question is, once I hook the Optic cable to my PS2, how do I hook it up to the TV? Also What kind of TV has an Optic input? Is there a good 20" TV with an Optic input & an S-Video input for a good price?

  • Answer:

I'm thinking you mean optical cable, now on the back of your PS2 there is a little black square that has a red glow coming from it, there should be the same thing on the back of your TV, they didnt start putting these on tv's until a few years ago, so if its over 5 years old, dont even try. There are no adapters for Optical cables if you dont have the inlet dont even try it. Also as far as tv's if it is a 20 inch tv i dont think your gonna even need the optical, just use the red and white RCA's. alot of the newer lcd's are coming with Optical but the smallers tv's dont.

Most 20" TVs don't have an optical cable. Optical cables carry digital surround sound data via fiber optics and lasers, and generally only large televisions would have one. Even then, it's more likely to be an output than an input. Optical cables will usually hook up to the receiver in a home theater system, where the signal is actually used. To hook your PS2 up to the TV, you probably need to stick with RCA cables or an RF unit. If you insist on using optical, you're probably going to be getting a very expensive TV or a home theater system.

Some Nerdy Guy

The optical outlet on your PS 2 is for sound output only. Don't even buy the Optical cable unless you have either a TV or stereo with an optical "in" port.
