Thin red line,going across the TV Screen?

I have a big screen sony tv that all of a sudden the screen to red and wont get of now?

• i turn on the the tv and it starts of as light red and slowly get darker and when it get to a dark blood red the screen goes black and the tv turns off by itself. The tv is about 6 years old.

  I am assuming this is a projection tv if so then the red crt is defective. sometimes they can be restored with a CRT rejuvinator but thats a 50/50 chance. most of the time i replace the tube itself. these cost around 200 to 300 dollars and another 250 to install and set up the tube along with a re alignment or the convergence. so you are looking at a ballpark of a $500 repair. with that I might start shopping for a new one.
