How do I hook up my computer to a big screen tv?

I get the blue screen of death when i hook my computer up to my new flat screen tv?

• i just got a new 32 inch tv for christmas, and it has a computer monitor cord outlet, where you can plug in a computer monitor cord. so i tried to hook it up and i started getting the "blue screen of death" my computer was already running slow, and possibly had a virus, so i restored it to what it was when it was brought out of the box.. and it was working fine, so i hooked it back up to the tv, and it was open and i could do something, then i hooked up the sound and got the blue screen again. what else could i do to make it work?

  Is the "blue screen of death" on the TV or the computer? If it is on the TV, that just means that it is not receiving the signal from the computer or it is not receiving a signal that it can display. If the computer itself has the blue screen when you connect it's normal monitor, that is a computer problem. You need to troubleshoot - when you connect the regular monitor to the PC, do you have a picture - yes? - connect the TV in place of the monitor - no picture? - reconnect the normal monitor and change the display settings - probably 1024x768 will work.
