Why is my tv picture blue?

Why is my new tv picture worse?

  • I bought a small Westinghouse 1080p 22" LED tv. I dont have HDMI out on my direct tv box, only s video. The new tv has no svideo . But, when i plug in the standard yellow, wht, red. connections the picture is worse than my old tv! Should i get a different tv or is the one i got just a crappy tv? Shouldn't it look decent (not worse) even though i dont have fancy connections? I bought it as a surprise for my wife who is away and i want it setup by tomorrow. Should i go out and get a different tv tonight? If so what would be my best choice capability wise? ?

  • Answer:

As Angus mentioned, time to upgrade to HD using either an HD antenna or a new HD set-top box. Composite video (yellow) has a resolution of 240 lines! When you scale it up to 1080, yes, it will look VERY bad.

The TV is fine. your problem is the source. That tv has a screen with 1920x1080 pixels on it and each pixel can be controlled separately. Now Standard DVD quality is about 720x480 pixels so it is alot less the HD. That means about 6 pixels on your new tv show exactly the same thing all the time. So that's why it doesn't look so good. So if u truly want to have it at top resolutions go buy a blu-ray player witch can send out FULL HD (1920x1080), Good luck
