What is the difference in lcd and led in TVs?

What is the difference between lcd and led tvs and which is best?

  • what is the difference and which is best

  • Answer:

both LCD and LED TVs use LCD for the picture. the difference between a regular LCD TV and LED TV is about how it lights up that image on the screen. LCD TVs use regular lightbulbs to light up the screen while LED TVs use LED lights to light up the backscreen. LCD technology by itself does not emit any light on its own so it needs a light source. That is why an LCD TV uses small lights on the inside and LED TVs use LED lights. LCD is liquid crystal display and it is when the image on the screen changes from one to another basically. it is much more complicated than that but there is a good wikipedia article about LCD technology. LED TVs are brighter and more vibrant. But I guarantee that you won't notice much difference unless you are a technology freak like me. But I have a regular LCD TV and I don't see the need for an upgrade if you already own an LCD TV. If you don't already own one, then I would save up a little more money to buy the LED TV. But make sure it comes with a nice warranty because LEDs have been known to go out after about a year (maybe less than 1% of TVs have this problem). But as long as you buy from a good brand like LG or Sony or something like that then I don't think that will be a problem. Just check the warranty options.

LCD TVs use one of two types of back lighting: Fluorescent, which is the original type, is still used in low end technology sets. The best (modern) technology employs LED lighting which is brighter and lasts much longer than fluorescent. (For mental comparison think about the flashlight you might have in your house. If it uses a standard bulb for lighting it will produce an average light. If it contains LEDs the lighting will be much brighter and there is a good chance you will never have to replace the LEDs.) In television, the brighter lighting makes for more vibrant colors, brighter whites and deeper blacks. There are two types of LED lighting on the market: Edge lit and full array. Edge lit TVs are most common (standard) for LED but full array LED lighting is much better and also more expensive.
