when you say rabbit ear aerials, is that an indoor aerial ?? and if it is they are hopeless for freeview tv's you need a proper roof or loft mounted aerial to get any channels

when hell is full the dead will walk the earth

Rabbit ear aerials are completely unsuitable for Freeview. They were dodgy things even for analogue tv. If you do not have first class reception then the television will be unable to decode the digital signal properly. One of the most common symptoms of this is that you can not receive groups of channels, and many of the ones that you can receive are distorted and "blocky", sometimes with nasty sound affects. It doesn't matter where in the world you are. This problem is down to the laws of physics. You must get a better aerial. Preferably one on your roof. Don't waste your money on a booster for the one that you have. If you cannot fit an outdoor aerial then invest in a much better indoor one.
