What is the difference between a smart antenna and a regular one?

Do you need an antenna to plug in a set top box?

  • My uni room does not have an antenna wall socket. What I did last year when this happened was buy a cheap $9 one instead and it got all the digital and analogue channels. This year I'm in a new place further up a hill and I tried with the antenna and it didn't pick up anything :( Everyone says that I should buy a set top box to get the channels, but I already have one built in, hence why I just needed the antenna? If I do use a set top box should I plug it in with a hdmi cable and then no antenna or plug in the cheap antenna into it as well? I can't test it because I'm not there for a few days. Will it make any difference? I personally don't think so because I already have one built in but everyone keeps telling me it will.. Or should I just buy an exspensive antenna? Thanks. Hope someone understands.

    your tv is a digital tv so no need to buy a set top box.....see its manual ....specifications page . you may buy a uhf antenna and install it in the line of sight of tv tower.
