Are all plasma TV's wall mountable?

How much weight can a wall take? (Plasma TVs)?

  • I have a 50" Plasma that I would like to hang on my bedroom wall... It's about 90" wide, it has metal studs, i checked, but can it hold a 50" TV ???

  • Answer:

The wall studs will be able to hold the TV, just make sure that the hooks, hangers, whatever are strong enough to hold the TV on the wall. I would go to a hardware store and ask.

If you drill right into the studs thats the best way to hang your TV set...otherwise you NEED to use some of those "butterfly" wall anchors...the ones that Fan out when screwed in... And they are actually rated in POUNDS of carrying capacity... I'd look for 50-70 pounders since the whole load will be carried by 4 wall anchors.....

Unless you want to repair the TV don't try to mount it to metal studs. Wall mounts for plasmas are designed to be mounted to wood studs using lag bolts. With metal studs these lag bolts will tear out over time and your tv will hit the ground. Before you can wall mount this TV you will need to reinforce the wall with wood studs to support the weight of the TV.
