You have adjustments on the TV because Your TV is slightly different from the next one off the assembly line, your cables are different and your source box's (cable, sat, xbox, PS3, WD LIve, ...etc.) have different electrical properties than mine. Try the Video setup menu from a Pixar disk for simple test patterns for the basic Brightness, Contrast and Color. You can also purchase a disk called "Digital Video Essentials" in either DVD or BluRay from Amazon for about $25. This has more tutorials, test patterns and will do a better job for the cost of the disk and an hour of your time. NOTE: TV is variable. Each show may be slightly different quality so your best way to calibrate is: * Use a high-quality source like a BluRay to calibrate * Do an A/B comparison from the BluRay to live TV and 'tweek' the settings a bit to get a good picture on both. Good Luck.

Calibrate your TV to suit 'your' personal taste - not the factory set-up for the showroom display effect....ie: everything at the dynamic level settings - no need for calibration DVDs - they only give similar settings to these manufactures settings - you need 'your personal' visual settings (1) Reducing the brightness will increase the 'deeper black colour effect' (on-a-par-to-plasma) whilst showing the other colours at there true colour levels. (2) Reduce the contrast - that giving a 'more realistic' skin tone colouring rather than the 'harsh skin' colouring most people seem settle for. (3) Reduce the colour strength - that getting rid of outlandish colourings etc. (4) Re-set the 'sharpness' - increasing it to the highest level and reducing it until it looks 'sharpest' to you. These are the main 4 items that cause the viewer to be disappointed with there TV visual experience.... these adjustments are all ...trial and error - until its all satisfactory to 'you'. No two peoples visual TV eye assessment are the same - all are different - the end result is what suits 'you'.....not the friend/neighbor down the street. Try other settings/functions out ie: Normal/Cinema etc - some being a little more brighter or darker and decide what suits you. Sound has always been a problem for these flat screen TV's - they using very small speakers because of limited space - but 'optimise' the sound levels

I had someone on here tell me to put a Pixar movie in the DVD player, go to picture and sound setup on the DVD and fix it from there. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to! My new HDTV is driving me nuts with yellow people!

The best settings for your TV will depend on the size of the room it's in, how many windows that room has, where the TV is placed in relation to the windows, how big the windows are, the orientation of your property, the size of your TV and the make and model. Since nobody here knows that answer to all those questions, nobody here can tell you what's best for your TV, can they?
