Which should i choose lcd or plasma tv? which is better?

i am in the market for a new tv and am at a loss, plasma or lcd? i have read on both and am looking at getting a 50" but the reveiws seem to go one way or the other. i don't know anyone who has done any research before buy either and my friends are no help . is there anyone out there that can give me a difinitive answer? what should i be looking for , ie : hook ups picture quality , maintainance issues.....etc. i would like this to be like my last tv, a long time before i have to get a new one. any info would be a help. thanx in advance.

I can't give you a technical answer, because this isn't really my area of expertise. But I used to have a 50 inch plasma, and it was SO HOT, it was like having a furnace in my living room. The people I know who have LCD's don't have that problem. So just one more thing to think about. I'm getting ready to buy a new one, and we're going LCD this time.

I dont know much but i know that lcd out lasts plasma. You have to worry about plasmas getting to cold to. I would say get a LCD, it will take your money further.

The best color is offered by plasma tvs. LCDs are good for room with ambient lighting. Plasmas have a problem of screen burn in though.
