Can the Toshiba 26" LCD (26HL37) work? on a regular cable connection because it says the only display is 720p?

YES, a 26" 720p HDTV can display 480i/480p regular cable content. The 1080p bigots are sooooooo wrong! A 720p 26" LCD HDTV will give you an extremely sharp & detailed HD image when receiving any HD 720p, 1080i or 1080p content. In fact, a 26" 720p TV will produce a superior picture to any sized 1080p HDTV when the input is 480i or 480p content. This is because the "Up-conversion" (NOT "up-scaling" process) always produces errors on screen. "Up-converting" 300,000 pixels (480i/480p content) to a 1M pixel (720p) native resolution screen always produces fewer errors than the "up-convertion" process of 300,000 pixels (480i/480p content) to over 2 million pixels (1080p native resolutions). Also note that the bulk of your HD channels are broadcast in 720p resolution or less. Again a 26" 720p HDTV will produce a superior HD image when compared to ANY sized 1080p HDTV. Displaying 720p on a 720p native resolution TV yields absolutely NO images errors, yet the 1080p beasts will be "up-converting" to over 2M pixels of native resolution and producing nearly 1M errors on screen.

ALL TVs must convert ALL resolutions.... So your 26 inch Toshiba will do it all....but it will DISPLAY it in the 720 NATIVE FORMAT of your TV screen.... A company would be foolish to build a TV set that can only recieve 1 of of 4 TV signals....
