Why is the picture on my tv black and white?

I just got a new tv and dvd player for xmas and the dvd player came with with the usual cords that connect to the Tv.(red yellow white) When I plugged them in, the picture turns out fine as in quality, but it plays dvds in black and white. Please Help!!

The dvd player might be broken or you did something wrong with the cords or you plugged it in wrong
