What is wrong with my only tv?

What's wrong with my Sanyo 46" TV?

  • I've had this television for less than a year. It has always been reliable. Today, the TV had picture but I had no sound. I have both my DirecTV reciever and Xbox 360 plugged into the TV with HDMI cables. I know the problem is not the cables. I get an error message when I change the TV input to either device: "This is a DVI connection. Please use either HDMI 1 or Audio 3 inputs for this AV signal." It seems the HD of the TV has stopped working. In the display settings of the Xbox 360 console, it registers a DVI connection rather than an HD connection. This shouldn't be happening. Does anyone know what's wrong with my TV? Is there any way to fix it?

  • Answer:

That is VERY weird. DVI is the same thing as HDMI except uses a different port and HDMI includes audio. therefore if the signal is being perceived by your TV as DVI, it will not support audio. it is most likely a problem with your TV and you will probably have to send it to Sanyo to be fixed, assuming the warranty is still intact. There is a very small chance it could be the cable though, borrow or purchase an HDMI 1.4 cable. if it works, keep it, if it doesn't, return it. getting v1.4 could make a difference.
