What should I be looking for when purchasing an HDTV?

Looking for advice for purchasing a widescreen, HDTV? or recommendations .?

    This depends on exactly what you are looking for, if you want the top of the line projection HDTV's (which I personally like better than plasma's) I would go with the Sony SXRD lcd or the Samsung DLP. Both of these are 1080p and will handle all the Blue Ray technology and HD dvd. The screens are brighter and offer less of an issue of viewing the TV at an angle. They are pricey, 50inch 1800-2700. I recommend getting a warranty for after the MFG warranty runs out. No need to make such a big purchase and not be covered if something goes wrong You obviously need to be a subscriber of HD cable to take advantage of the HD channels. Do not just use the cable card in the tv's slot, you wont be able to use all of the on screen menu's

If you want the best picture, the Sony SXRD is the one to get. However, all the new sets have excellent pictures, so you should go look at them and get the one that fits your needs and is the price you want to pay. Only one thing: anything less than 37" is not getting the benefit of HD; go for 40" or more if you can.

Size? Give a range. Flat or projection? Flat can hang on the wall. Projection is about 10 to 20 inches deep. Price Range? Got a Budget? What are you using it for? Family room or just a big screen for you Xbox 360. Answer these questions and you will get a much better result. Think of it as if I asked this Looking for a vehicle. any recommendations?

My husband and I bought an HDTV last year and were shocked to find out that if you want all your programs to come through in HD you must purchase the HD signal from cable/dish company. If you don't then none of your programs will come through in HD. The HDTV means that it is capable of receiving the signal it doesn't necessarily mean you will be getting all your pictures in HD.....
