How to convert balcony railing into HD antenna?

Will HD channels through the antenna still broadcast in HD if routed through a non-hd Satellite box?

  • I have satellite, but I do not pay for HD. I bought an antenna so I can get the local digital channels in HD. If I route the wire through the input hole on the satellite box, will I still be receiving those channels in HD. It looks like I am, but I cannot tell. Only answer this question if you actually know what you are talking about please.

  • Answer:

Unfortunately, no. Your satellite box only outputs an sd signal, so the image you would be viewing would be scaled down to sd, in order for the image to be outputted by the box.

Too legit to ⌘Q

The Antenna in on an SD satellite box is just a passthrough for when the satellite box is off or in bypass mode. The satellite in cannot tune from an antenna at all. It will be up to your TV tuner to tune the digital OTA channels, and your TV to display them in TV. If you have an HD-Ready TV, but no digital OTA tuner, you need to upgrade to an HD satellite box which may have digital OTA tuner built in, or a separate HD capable digital OTA tuner.
