My TV has strange static noise coming from the inside of the TV, what's wrong?

When I turned on my TV, the static noise will come rapidly and it will stopped for a while, and after that, every 2~5 seconds, there will be one tick of the static noise coming from the inside of the TV. Every time the static noise is heard, the video of my TV will flicker for a second, what's wrong? Should I repair it or buy a new one? Will the TV explode (LOL) ?

Answer:
It's unlikely to explode but it rather sounds like the EHT voltage supply for the CRT is on its last legs. It may be an excess of dust in the back or more likely a terminal fault. Time to start scanning the new TV brochures.
