Is there a VGA cable adaptor?

HDMI to DVI Cable and then a DVI to VGA adaptor?

  • So I bought a 2nd hand Optoma ES520 projector and would like to connect it to my entertainment centre. Problem is, I'm currently using a PS3 as a media center but the projector only has a VGA connector. I have connected my PC to my projector through a DVI out port with a DVI cable and then used a DVI to VGA convertor on the other end, this worked so I assume my projector accepts digital signals as the adapter does not convert the signal if I'm not mistaken. So after reading around it seems there are expensive units for converting HDMI to VGA but there are cheap HDMI to DVI cables available. Would I be able to use an HDMI to DVI cable and then use a DVI to VGA adapter to connect the PS3 to the Projector? Please help :D

  • Answer:

No you cannot. If you got a HDMI to DVI cable, the DVI would actually be DVI-D which is digital only. Then the DVI to VGA adapter would actually be DVI-A which is analog only. So while you could get these parts, and they would be able to plug in to each other, you would get no picture.
