What is the average lifespan of a TV commercial?

What are optimal LCD TV settings to extend the lifespan of the TV and enjoy a vivid picture as well?

  • I recently bought a Samsung LN-T3732H LCD TV. It is 37" with 5000:1 contrast ratio, 720p resolution. When I first turned it on, the contrast level was all the way up to 100. I read by reducing this, you can extend an LCD's lifespan. I set it at 50 now, and I was wondering what other LCD TV owners set theirs at. The backlight level is at 10 (highest), and brightness is at 50. Do these settings need to be changed? Thanks.

  • Answer:

50 is quite low for contrast level, but it all depends what you like to look at? Most people prob have Contrast at around 80-90. I would turn the Backlight down to 5-6, reduces overall brightness, and LCDs are already very bright! 50 for Brightness is OK, quite normal. Best advice I can give you, set to your personal preferences. All the best!

<Ahem> An LCD...OR a DLP's lifespan is NOT CONTROLLED by brightness or contrast settings.... THE LIGHTING is always ON Full blast...You don't control the amount of light coming out of the LAMP or the Backpanel Display to increase the lifespan. What you are controlling is the amount of light getting past the LCD crystal shutters or the amount of light Reflected by the DLP.... In actuality, Full Contrast and Mid-Brightness would not only give you the BEST picture, it would make the LCD panel or the DLP mirrors run cooler....now there you might get some more life, but it is so miniscule.....
