How to set up HDMI on PS3?

How can I set up my ps3 and my HDTV with hdmi cables?

So i got a brand new Sylvania HDTV 32 in model LC320SSX and I also got a new hdmi cable to go along with my PS3. But the problem is that i cant get it to function? I tried switching the ps3's video output to the hdmi but the screen goes black and no picture for hdmi and just returns back to the original Yellow, Red and White cable. please someone help!!!

Connect both the Yellow red white and the HDMI cable.... Now, you gotta be fast so keep your remote right beside you. Switch to the Yellow red white input Go to the HD portion of the menu, select the HDMI mode and PUSH it.... Then IMMEDIATELY switch the TV over to HDMI input And quickly "Keep these settings" before it reverts back to the LOW DEF mode! Once you do that, it will operate thru the HDMI cable. You gotta be fast .....
