Why is my dlp tv flickering?

DLP Or LED TV, need help?

  • Going to get a new tv. I have a 58'' dlp that I love, but we're moving it upstairs. I'm not sure whether or not to replace it with another DLP or get an LED. The specs are very similiar, (even the meaningless ones like Dynamic Contrast Ratio in which the human eye cannot pickup). The difference in price is about 500 Here's the two tvs... 1. Sharp 60'' LED tv...120Hz - about 1399 2. Mitshubishi DLP ....60Hz - about 899 Is there any real picture difference or is it just a longevity issue. Is $500 worth it compared to the cost of maybe changing out a bulb in a dlp? I've had my dlp for 3 years and no problems as of yet

  • Answer:

Its really a matter of looking at all three technologies of LCD, DLP, and Plasma at an approximate price point. Plasma which is $1000 at Sears, is priced at Checkout at Bestbuy and should be less: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=product&id=1218310008324&AID=10597222&PID=3237423&SID=lhd-180575&URL=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bestbuy.com%2Fsite%2Folspage.jsp%3Ftype%3Dproduct%26id%3D1218310008324&ref=39&CJPID=3237423&loc=01 LCD would be this one for $1000 and was on sale at $800 last year http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sharp+-+AQUOS+/+60%26%2334%3B+Class+/+LCD+/+1080p+/+120Hz+/+HDTV/3641541.p?id=1218422888626 or the DLP WD-60638 http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Mitsubishi+-+Home+Cinema+/+60%22+Class+/+1080p+/+60Hz+/+3D+DLP+HDTV/9966999.p?id=1218202944577&skuId=9966999 http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/tv/WD-60638 Comparing, The plasma has the brightest colors, the best viewing angles, the true highest contrast ratios, the best fluidity of motion, and high color uniformity but typically wears after about 4 or 5 years of use. It is of lowest thickness at 3 inches plus the stand, and has some internet capability. It weighs almost 100 pounds with the stand. Runs at about 179 watts power The LCD SHARP is about 5 inches thick, 390 watts, and about the same weight. The picture is less brilliant than the plasma, but tends to have a better life in years. The DLP is 212 watts, 62 pounds, 14.5 inches thick plus a wider stand. The black colors are more grey. Viewing angles are tighter Will not compare to the $1400 Sharp model because it is designed with a different feature set. Comparing, depends on the room and amount of time watching per day. The DLP is much thicker, worse in viewing angles, but for $100 you can buy a replacement bulb to refresh it to like-new. The color is nice, but black is a little washed out. I would go DLP at 73" if the room is big enough to support a 60" The LCD is an in-between. It does use more electricity. viewing angles better than DLP, picture more vivid slightly than DLP. Is 5" thick so can be wall mount. The Plasma will start wearing if you use it a lot of hours every day, but day 1 has the best picture by far. Thickness is down. Is somewhat heavier. Can be wall mounted. Viewing from any angle. If at 900 to 1000 plus tax, I might go Plasma. Squaretrade warranty 3 years excluding DLP bulb usually is $110 on any of these 3 http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/ If you plan to make use of 3D, the picture quality difference may not be enough not to get the DLP.
