The best brands are Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and Sharp. You would have to compare specs at a price and view the pictures and hear the sound to know which is best value. The technologies are: Plasma, TFT-LCD, LED-LCD Generally, but with exceptions based on the set, Plasma is better day -1, but degrades more in use. The picture angles, refresh rates, color, contrast are better at a price. TFT-LCD and LED-LCD are different by the back lighting. LED is typically thinner, lighter weight, more uniform in brightness across the screen, usually better contrast ratio, and uses less electricity. TFT is brighter picture and lower cost Typically very little difference at under 50 inches between 720p and 1080p. The 1080p will be slightly sharper. In the hertz, the higher number means a more consitent motion flow across the screen. 4% of the people see the choppy flow of 60Hz. Another 10% detect the smooth flow difference but do not actually see the choppy imaging. 86% cannot detect a difference at all among refresh rates. The audio is often very different between TVs. If adding an external sound system, that is less important. The Vizio and various other brands tend to have lower reliability. All new TVs have a 1 year warranty. Some credit cards add 1 year of insurance coverage. To get a 3 year warranty, buy it at Squaretrade.com if in the US. Buying a set without seeing it means you have to research for reviews. The Plasmas are heavier usually.

It depends on you room that you are putting the TV in. There are benefits and drawbacks to each type. 1st. decide on they technology of the TV. LCD- liquid crystal display- this TV is lit with fluorescent bulbs. LED- light emitting diode- this TV is the new version of LCD, when the price of led goes down lcd is going to go away. LED is lit with Light Emitting Diodes mostly on the top and bottom and in the higher end ones on the side as well. Plasma- plasma is a gas mixture of sion and neon i believe (not 100% sure on that) but just like a neon sign it lights up when an electric charge is placed on the gas. Plasma is very good for gaming and fast action movies and sports, because it 600hz (i will get to that later). However plasma has a glass screen so it will glare in a bright room. The higher end plasma have a better glass on them so they will glare less. Plasmas will only be found in sizes lager than 42". Plasma will also have a better black level (the colors will look like more natural without messing with the contrast or brightness). LED tends to be thinner, brighter, sharper, and more energy efficient. However, they are more expensive. Best for a bright room because they are so bright that they overpower the glare. LCD is just a darker and thicker and cheaper version of LED. 2. they you look at 1080p and 720p you have 720i 720p 1080i and 1080p i stands for interlaced p stands for progressive p is better than i 1080p is 1080 lines of pixels going from top to bottom of your screen. the more pixels you have the better you picture it can be. if you are watching some direct tv channels, playing xbox, playstation3, or a blu-ray player you will get 1080p if you have a 1080p tv if you have comcast, verizon, a dvd player, a vhs player, a wii, ect. the most you can get is 1080i therefore, if you don't have anything on that top list you don't really need a 1080p tv because you are not going to get it. 1080i and 720p is almost the same anyways. 3. then we get to HZ or hertz you are going to have slowest to fastest 60, 120, 240, and 600hz think of it as frames per second. the quicker the computer can clear the image and put the next one up the better your movement looks. most of your lcd and led tv's are 60 or 120. however, the higher led end tvs are 240. any plasma you see will have 600hz. there are no pixels to refresh in a plasma because they are just lighting up a gas. therefore plasma is good for fast moving things, like i said b4 fast action movies, gaming, and sports. 4. decide if you want a smart tv, 3D, and a web browser. a smart tv will give you apps like your iphone. the major ones are netflix, facebook, pandora, youtube. there is a lot more. check if the tv is wifi ready or wifi built in. if it is wifi ready you have to buy and adapter or run a wire to it. if it is wifi built in it connects to your router with out wires or adapters. 3D- you can get 3d 3 ways. you can buy a 3d movie, buy channels from your cable provider, or the tv will do a 3d to 2d conversion. any 2d channel that you are watching can be upconverted to 3d. You need 5 things with 3d. #1 the tv must be 3d #2 you must have a hdmi cable capable of 3d #3 you need 3d glasses that matches the brand of the tv #4 you need the 3d contenet #5 you need a 3d blu-ray player to watch 3d movies web browser- this allows you to go www.yahoo.com or any other url. Note: not many tv's have this I personally recommend Samsung, it is our number one best seller and they get the best reviews. However, if you are looking at plasma look at Panasonic my favorite tv for picture quality is un46d7000 it has 3d, apps, wifi built in, web browser, the samsung smart remote, 240hz, 1080p, and led lights on the side. Another thing you should think about adding to you tv is a good sound system and having the tv calibrated so that you can have the best picture.

Best brand - Samsung. No lie. I install cable and internet in customer houses. Best picture i've seen is always on Samsungs, they're a bit pricier, but worth it
