I just put a scratch on my 50 inch HDTV screen by accident. Is there anything I can do or buy to remove or?

minimize this scratch? The worst part is that the scratch is right in the center of the screen. It is not THAT terribly noticeable, but it turned my flawless tv into a damaged one.

Now THAT's a bummer........ And you'll always know where that scratch is and be DRAWN to watch that spot while enjoying your favorite shows....that's the worst part about it...... But if it's minor....go to Radio Shack and buy their $20 Monster Screen Cleaning Kit....it has a special liquid that not only cleans, but kinda polishes it too.....Try that First!! Next, this only works if its a Flat Screen, not a "Ribbed" Screen (but try it , it may work if its Really Minor) Get out some Toothpaste......Seriously Toothpaste!! We use it on minor scratches in the protection screens! How do you apply it? Not with a tooth brush! Use a Q-tip or cloth for larger abrasions, but in your case....Q-tip. Now you kinda want a toothpaste with some abrasive...Colgate or Gleem works, but not the CRUNCHY super-sparkly stuff!! Apply a dab of the toothpaste on a moistened Q-tip and work it back and forth in the scratch a couple times, then go around in circles over the scratch, like you're polishing the wax on a shoe (GI's know this procedure---the smaller the circle the more shinier it is) BUT DON'T OVER SHINE IT EITHER!! The key is to get rid of the OPAQUE-NESS WITHIN the scratch, but to avoid shining up the surface of the screen, which will make that polished area stand out worse than the scratch stands out.....

If it is a 50 inch TUBE there are some glass polishers out there. But you need to be carful with them, you might try toothpaste as it is a mild abrasive, but be careful with the water around electrical. If you have LCD/Plasma nothing you can do....

If it is very slight, you could try a jewelers cloth. Otherwise I would call a repair shop to inquire about fixing it. There must be some way to fix it. After all, they can repair scratched or broken windshields!

You can buy a replacement glass. Depending on the screen this can be very easy or very complicated. Cost is anywhere from about $75-400. Try contacting a A/V specialist in your area and ask if they do something like that.

Yeah that's a bummer dude. It's pretty much an expensive mistake. You can either have the screen replaced, or sell it as-is and get another one and invest in a screen protector for your next set. Otherwise, if you can live with it, just forget about the scratch and keep it as is. H a p p y H o m e T h e a t e r i n g !
