New Samsung 46" D6000 LED HD TV blurry?
-
I just bought a Samsung 46" D6000 LED HD TV with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The picture is blurry and it looks like there's some ghosting. It's not motion related. I saw an XFINITY commercial that has a large red XFINITY spelled out. I can see the red color bleeding into the space around the letters. I have Comcast basic cable, but it's not HD. I do not have a cable box. I've connected the cable directly into the TV. I have not hooked up any other components to the TV. I used the auto channel set-up to find the channels. I've tried 3 different ways and the picture has been the same in all 3 cases. The TV I'm replacing is a Sony WEGA, old style tube TV (not HD). It was connected in the same way and the picture on it was fine. Any ideas? Is it a bad signal? Are there adjustments I need to make? Could the TV be bad? Thanks.

Answer:
To get the optimum picture, a HD set top box (cable box) is required along with hooking it up component or HDMI. A standard definition picture (cable no box) looks like crap. The picture is fuzzy and dull. It's the nature of the beast. Everyone "thinks" it's the TV, it's not, it's your source.

Try a regular OTA antenna, or a DVD player/VCR/Game Console, since you're not getting HD programming, and don't have a box, it's possible that's causing you some issues, Comcast does suck, and you'd at least be able to see if the display of the TV was good in other ways.
Whatevers
The signal from your basic (no box) cable is analog. Your old Sony TV was an analog set. An analog signal into an analog TV = a good picture. Your new TV is a digital set. It really wants to see a high-def digital signal in order to do what it was designed to do. It *will* display an analog signal, but since it's not an analog TV, it has to compromise the picture quality to display an analog image at all. Your solution is to upgrade your cable service to a digital channel package, preferably HD, with a corresponding cable box. You can also get dazzling HD for free with a very good antenna. Over-the-air HD channels are the best you can get with regard to HD quality (minimal compression compared to cable).
