Best digital TV antenna?

How to connect "digital" antenna to digital TV?

  • We are new to digital TV since don't watch much TV. We have the ANT145 "digital" antenna and a digital TV. But not sure how to install. The Antenna has a built in coaxial cable but the TV does not have a port for the coaxial cable--i.e. there is no coaxial cable input on this TV. Are we missing another device? Would we need the converter box. I don't think so...or does the TV need an ATSC digital tuner? Any good advice is appreciated. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Your monitor is HD ready. That means no tuner. Save the headache and buy a HD TV.

You need an ATSC tuner to install between the antenna and monitor. Look at the monitor and see what kinds of video inputs it has; you want to make sure that the tuner you buy has a matching video output. Does the monitor have the old type 3:4 shape or is it a wide screen (9:16)? There are several types of tuners that you could buy: 1. Converter boxes - You should be able to find a used one cheap. These only have analog outputs at SD resolution and most were designed with the old narrow 3:4 screens in mind. 2. HD ATSC tuners - this is probably what you want. There are DVD recorders with ATSC tuners built in. Example: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Magnavox-MDR-513H-F7-320GB-DVR-and-DVD-Recorder/14291489?findingMethod=rr 4. You can buy USB tuners for resent vintage computers that let you use them as DVRs. >We have the ANT145 "digital" antenna A simple UHF/VHF antenna that needs fairly high signal strength. You can find out how close you are to your local TV transmitters at: http://www.tvfool.com/index.php?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29 > "digital" antenna In North America, all TV antennas are digital. So feel free to try any old antenna you have laying around.
