Am i right to bought the CRT rear projection tv than instead to buy an LCD rear projection? Because i bought a CRT rear PJ last 3 weeks ago.I bought it coz we dont have enough money to afford the 50inch LCD PJ TV.I and my father after only for the big screen for the big viewing angle, with it comes to the color or reception i think CRT does not behind far away to the Lcd?(please advise me). My father wants to watch movie from his busy job,to get rest of his mind and body.we dont mind also the bulky back of the CRT because we have a spacious living room.Is the CRT rear projection tv very far behind from the Lcd? Please help us,i need your positive comment or any suggestion to make great our CRT rear PJ tv. If you have a negative comment,ok,i undersatand.thanks. God Bless.

Answer:
the only real advantage an lcd projection has over a CRT projection is size. CRT projections have a better refreshrate, better contrast ratio and better black levels. Plus crt projections will last you longer than the LCD projection. The main problem with LCD projections is the arc lamp they use which lasts on averg 2-3 years and then needs to be replaced at an average cost of 200 to 400 dollars. Plus if you have animals or a dusty house LCD projections are not for you, these things have 3 or 4 fans inside to keep the tiny LCD panels cool. there are no filters and dusty can easily plug up the small blowers inside the set damaging the panels and because of this you need then replaced the light engine which is usually about $650 for a rebuilt one or around $1300 for a new one. The technology has not been perfected such as CRT projection has so I tell you, your choice was a good one

CRT rear projection sets far exceed picture quality than LCD. I think you made the right choice.

From a technical point of view, both TVs have their benefits, as well as short comings. The TV generally uses a Fresnel lenses to get the image made as large as the front screen. The LCD is using a matrix of transistors that turn on, or off the elements that make the picture happen. If there is a loss in that matrix, then it will begin to appear as spots on the screen where there is no image. What you can afford is the biggest issue for what you have. How the V really works is of little consequence, so long as it gives you what you desire.

After comparing DLP side by side, I'd wait for DLP to come down in price or save up some extra money.

Just to clarify above, CRTs do not have refresh rates. LCD has a washed out look and CRT is just bulky. I recently purchased a plasma and didnt know the CRT technology was still being produced. I would have checked out the Samsung DLP 42 inch which is a very good price.
