What brand of 47 inch LCD TV would you buy?

LCD or plasma tv advice? I am looking to buy a 37-42 inch tv but am yet undecided about which format to buy.?

  • Let me know your opinion about your tv as I have read plasmas are better if you are going for a larger screen tv but the new 1080p lcd screens are apparently excellent as well.

  • Answer:

Your spot on. i suggest A PLasma for over 32 inches as it will have a better picture quality at that size. Only go for LCD at that size if it is exeptionally well praised and a lot cheaper than the plasma equivalent. but yea hes right^^^^^^ thee isnt all that much difference i only notice on Xbox360 menu screen lol

I have owned a 42 plasma and now have a 42 lcd when I broke the last one, I too have heard this, and after owning both, plasma was a panasonic, lcd is a samsung, I cant tell the difference. get what ever you want. people will give you some bullshit tech stuff about each, but I have owned both, and both are as good as each other for a normal regular household

Right then. Having gone through your pain some 4 months ago, you have my sympathy. All the above answerers are correct for the various reasons they give. I hummed and ha'd for a while over the plasma vs LCD debate and in the end made my decision on a different criteria, because in my head, and no matter how long I looked at the TV's at the shop, I could no longer find a major difference between the two formats. What it boiled down to was how easy would it be to live with my final choice? I had great experience with Panasonic over the years, finding their products intuitive to use. Sony I liked, but found the menu's just a little harder to use. Philips I thought were great technically, but really hard work when it came to living with them. So in the end, I went for a 42" Panasonic plasma - a Viera TH-42PX700PED to be precise. I have not regretted it one bit. Great picture, good bassy sound and it's easy to use - all very intuitive. Summary - LCD or plasma? Couldn't tell the difference, but would recommend plasma over 40" and LCD for less than 40", because of blacker blacks on the plasma, which look better on a bigger screen. Ease of use? Go for a Panasonic. Good luck.

My sister just splashed out on a 37 inch Panasonic plasma tv and I have to say the blacks are really black and there's no motion blurring to speak of; even dvds looked fine on it.

There are plenty of good reasons why 63% of the population prefer plasma televisions.

We have a LCD 1080p and its got a fantastic picture quality. (Samsung 46in just in case your interested) We went for LCD as we were told that plasma screens can be unstable and blow if you knock them. We spent a lot of time looking at them before we made our choice and we weren't disappointed.
