Answer:
1) Most people doesn't know that a 3D TV is in fact a top of the line 2D TV that the manufacturer added the 3D option to. A 3D TV can display better 2D picture than a 2D only TV, due to its higher general quality. A lot of people think that a 3D TV can only be watched in 3D, and that it is a lot pricier because of that. 2) 3D TV with glasses isn't very convenient. Even with the cheap passive glasses, you still need to put something on to watch TV. You can't lay down comfortably on the couch with them. When you invite friends over, you need to have enough glasses. You cannot really do another activity while watching 3D TV (unless that activity isn't affected by your glasses). So, mostly because of 2), the general mass isn't all over them. That being said, I really like 3D and I don't care about the glasses but I understand the people that do care about that.

The initial interest in 3D televisions was driven by the release of 3D movies (primarily 'Avatar'). Within months of the release of the first "modern" 3D films, viewing figures started to decline and have carried on a downward trend ever since. As a result, the sales of 3D televisions will eventually decline, too. Where Hollywood goes, the home cinema world follows...

Might be because 3D tv is hard on eyes, suggests specific lighting conditions and the technology and effect is changing fast. Vizio has a technology where you don't need the glasses anymore. I like 3d, but in some cases the movie doesn't look that much better in 3D and when it comes to gaming, again, it's hard on the eyes especially if you want to game for 2 hours and not take a break for a while in between. If you like it, then that's all that maters.

The 3D TV's are selling less and less.... Little programming, mostly for expensive Blu Ray DVD 3D movies, AND Toshiba is coming out with the glasses-free TV shortly.!!

Because its cool for 15 minutes but then its annoying. I cant watch a full football or basketball game with the glasses on. You'll eventually not use them too much.

There aren't a lot of programs that utilize 3d technology. 3d is only useful for watching movies and sports right now.

You have to wear 3d glasses (which can also get lost), and 3d glasses cause a lot of people to get headaches.

Agreed, 3d is the future and here to stay market research will tell you that 90% of TV over 500 pound are now 3d lots of films due out this and next year, the TV suppliers and film produces are pushing 3d! Really do not understand why anyone would buy anything other than a 3d TV, they have better processors, Hz, features and better 2d pictures. Whether you us the 3D or not is a bit irrelevant at the moment! As for these "so called side effects" none of my friends or family have ever complained of anything whilst watch 3d TV, so have to assume its being a bit of media and 3d sceptic hype. One final point for all people waiting for glasses free 3d, be realistic! Although prototype models are available and have been show at trade shows, they are not ready for sale. The manufacturers are still trying to work out the distance and angle problems, until glasses free tv is produce that can be watch for a number of angles and distances they will not be ready for home sale. Even when they do produce home sale models the prices will be huge and not in most people’s price range as the original 3d TVs were, could be some 3-4 year before glasses free 3d is on the market at an affordable price!

I've also just bought a 3DTV 42" from amazon for £360 and like you pointed out there are offers out there for 3DTV's for less than the average 2d. It works great as a 3D upscaler and as a full 1080p 3DTV I also bought a ps3 for the 3D bluray capability which are just as cheep as a stand alone 3D bluray player. It displays 3D games on both ps3 and xbox360 with awesome results. I will never go back to 2dtv it's not a gimmick it really works and works great. There is only one drawback which is the lack of 3D blurays and the poor displays at stores not pointing out the 3D discs eg blockbuster, game etc. I'm just glad my tv converts 2D to 3D.
3D TV is not ready yet - it still uses 1950s technology ie a pair of spectacles with coloured glass. By c2013/14 it is hoped to have something approaching 21stC technology which means we'll no longer have to wear special spectacles to view 3D on screen. The first anaglyph movie was invented in 1915. Though the earliest theatrical presentations were done with this system, most 3D movies from the 50s. Thus, if you are still using 3D spectacles to view 3D on your TV set, then what you've got is best described as Victorian since it was first made available in 1915 - almost 100 years ago - cor blimey. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3D_film What everyone is waiting for is 'standardisation' - something like the all British three pin plug - everything must be the same, otherwise we're going to get into a right mess. Personally I think the best invention is the all British Wing Nut - it goes on easily and it comes off easily. But try explaining that to the Germans with their slide rules and compasses and tight fitting leather trousers. Think you may have jumped the Gun. My partner and moi spent several days researching 3D TV and then decided against it. Someone at our TV show room spent a lot of time explaining that if we wait another couple of years, there should then be proper techno in place - hope so. Back in the 1950s when I was a teen animal, we used to see quite a lot of 3D movies at the local flea pit - The Roxy Cinema
