My HDTV has 1080i what does this mean?

If I buy an HDTV that is 720p capable, does that mean that it automatically works with 1080i too?

  • Answer:

720p and 1080i go hand and hand. Yes, all 720p HDTV will accept 1080i. But, 1080p is a different beast and is in a league of its own.

I have never seen a 720p display not render 1080i into 720p. So yes it should automatically downrez 1080i to 720p.

Kind of. If the source is 1080i then the tv will scale down to 720p because that's the max resolution on your tv.

no, only 720p

YEs it will conver it down to 720. True HD is only 1080 though. So at 720 it isnt true HD. HD IS 1080!!!
