How do I program a Sony remote to work with my Directv Receiver?

• Our family just got a new Directv receiver because our old one stopped working. We had a receiver from almost 8 years ago. Our old Sony remote that says RM-YD010 on it, which I think is the model number, worked with our old receiver without having to program it. My parents don't know how to use our new remote because they aren't tech-savvy, and they asked me to program it to work the satellite. I don't know how to do it, so I need some help. PLEASE!!!

  Most likely your old remote won't work with a new DirecTV receiver. The nice thing about you having Sony devices are that Sony has been using the same remote codes for years now. A very simple solution is to go get a universal remote control, preferably Sony brand ($15 at Best Buy), and it will have codes for not only your older devices (will most likely match up with your Sony stuff without programming), but will also work with your new DirecTV box.
